Admissions Requirements

Applicants ordinarily hold a bachelor’s degree or demonstrate equivalent professional preparation. Previous experience in ministry, healthcare, counseling, caregiving, or another helping profession is preferred but not required.

Applicants must demonstrate readiness for reflective learning, interpersonal engagement, responsible clinical practice, and the exploration of personal and professional functioning. ClinicalChaplaincy.org welcomes applicants from diverse religious, spiritual, cultural, and nonreligious backgrounds.

How to Apply

1. Complete the online CPE application.

2. Upload the requested materials, including your résumé or CV, reflective autobiography, helping incident or clinical case, and statement of hopes and aspirations.

3. Provide contact information for two references.

4. Participate in an admissions interview with a Clinical Training Supervisor.

5. If accepted, complete the clinical-placement approval process, enrollment documents, and tuition arrangements.

 

Do not include protected health information or patient-identifying information in any application or uploaded material.

APPLICATION TIMING.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until each cohort is filled. Applications are now being accepted for all 2027 regular and extended CPE units. Because clinical-site approval and onboarding require time, applicants are encouraged to apply at least eight weeks before their preferred unit’s start date.

Clinical Placement

Admission to the program and approval of a clinical placement are related but separate decisions. Accepted trainees must secure a suitable local clinical site and complete the placement-approval process before beginning clinical hours.

Tuition and Fees

• First CPE unit: $2,000 for applicants entering without prior CPE.

• Units 2–4: $2,400 per unit.

• Applicants entering with one or more prior CPE units: $2,400 per unit.

• Tuition is the same whether the unit is completed in the regular or extended format.

• Application fee: $100. The application fee is waived for all applications for 2027 CPE units.

Payment requirements and due dates are stated in the enrollment agreement.

 

Applicants may complete a single unit or pursue a sequence of units. Those preparing for professional certification should verify the requirements of their intended certifying body.

Financial Assistance

Limited financial assistance may be available based on demonstrated need and available resources. Requesting assistance does not affect the admissions decision.

Tuition and Refund Policy

A written tuition and refund policy is provided before enrollment and payment. Applicants have an opportunity to review the policy and ask questions before signing the enrollment agreement.

International Applicants

International applicants are welcome. Clinical placements must satisfy ClinicalChaplaincy.org standards and all applicable requirements in the country or jurisdiction where the clinical work occurs.
